25/06/01 Cognac Esteve wins again

The International Wine and Spirit Competition concluded recently in London has awarded Trophy Winner 2001 to Cognac Jacques Esteve Très Vieux de la Propriete.  In addition his Reserve Ancestrale won Bronze medal. These awards will be presented at the gala dinner in London on 14 July 2001.

To celebrate his winnings Torula News visited Jacques Esteve and tasted his latest product, Jacques Esteve Héritage Très Vieux Petite Champagne. It had a great nose with touch of wood and a wide range of fruity tones. On the mouth it was rich with dominant rancio and strong hints of cherries. It could have been longer if not for a touch of sweetness. At 42% alc. vol. we scored it at 20 out 30. As we shared our amateur opinions with Jacques Esteve, he offered us a taste of the same eaux-de-vie from the barrel, fût de brut, at 45% alc. vol. And it was a magic scoring 28 out of 30. The length, roundness, fruits and rancio truly came to life. Our preference was obvious.
